Commander Honglan is a fast-paced main boss in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, located in the Tang Emperor’s Palace. This fight is a true test of skill, focusing heavily on deflection and understanding her combos. She utilizes two distinct stances, switching from a single longsword to dual blades in her second phase.
Honglan is located in the Lotus Pond area within Palace Hill. From the Palace Hill shrine, you must find the Buddha Statue at the end of the path to the left. Be cautious of enemies along the way. Place the statue in the stone structure to the right of the shrine to unlock the path to her arena.
The key to this fight is defense and posture management. Unlike other bosses, Honglan can be staggered by successfully deflecting her sword attacks, creating small but crucial windows to deal damage. In Phase 1, focus on learning her sword combo timings. In Phase 2, when she switches to dual blades, you must also be aware of her new ranged wind attacks.
Spinning Upper Cut
She spins to build momentum before delivering a powerful upward slash. This is often followed by another slash, so be ready to dodge or deflect twice.
Sword Slashes
A quick dashing slash, either upward or downward. She can perform this move twice in a row.
Knife Throw
Honglan performs a side flip while throwing four knives in a cone-shaped spread. Create distance to avoid taking multiple hits.
At 50% HP, Honglan switches to Dual Blades. She becomes faster, more aggressive, and adds several wind-based projectile attacks to her arsenal.
Double Wind Slash
Her opening move for Phase 2. She slashes the air twice, sending two large, diagonal projectiles toward you. Dodge to the side for each slash.
Vertical / Horizontal Wind Slash
She will send out a single large projectile, either vertically or horizontally. Dodge to the side to avoid these.
Quick Stab
A very fast, short-range stab. Dodge to the side, as dodging backward may still get you caught in her follow-up combo.
Sword Cyclone
A deadly spinning attack that deals damage in all directions as she dashes towards you. You must dodge to the left or right to avoid this.
Leap Attack
She jumps high into the air and strikes with her dual blades upon landing. Dodge forward to get behind her for a punish window.
Description: Most of Honglan’s sword and dual blade attacks (like Forward Stab and Spinning Upper Cut) can be deflected.
Strategy: Successfully deflecting an attack will briefly stagger her. This is your most reliable way to create openings and break her poise for an Obliterate Strike. Note that her physical attacks (punches, kicks) cannot be deflected.
Alacrity Spell Dodge
Description: Spells with the Alacrity property allow you to dodge while casting.
Strategy: Use spells like Echo of Lu Bingzhang just before her attack connects. You will automatically evade the hit while the spell damages her, allowing you to stay on the offensive.
Double Wind Slash (Phase 2)
Description: Her signature move in Phase 2. She sends two wide, ranged slashes of wind at you.
Strategy: This move has a long wind-up. As soon as you see her gather wind, prepare to dodge sideways twice. Do not dodge backward.
