Ming General Liu Cheng'en Boss Guide

Ming General Liu Cheng’en is a main boss encountered in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. This guide covers his weaknesses, resistances, location, and provides a detailed strategy on how to defeat him, along with the drops and achievements you’ll earn.

While specific elemental weaknesses are being determined, Ming General Liu Cheng’en has clear vulnerabilities to certain physical damage types.

  • Recommended: Stab and Slash attacks are highly effective.
  • Not Recommended: He possesses high mitigation against Blunt attacks, so avoid using weapons that primarily deal this type of damage to maximize your output.

Success in this fight relies on proper preparation to counter his primary threats: Frostbite and relentless physical attacks.

  1. Stack Frostbite Resistance Almost all of Liu Cheng’en’s attacks inflict a significant Frostbite buildup. Equip armor with high Frostbite resistance and have consumables ready to alleviate the status effect. This will be crucial for your survival, especially in the second phase.

  2. Wear Armor that Mitigates Stabs and Slashes Liu Cheng’en uses two distinct weapons throughout the fight. He begins with a polearm, dealing Stab damage, and switches to a sword for fast Slash attacks at 50% health. Wearing armor with strong mitigation against both Stab and Slash damage will allow you to endure his combos and create more opportunities to attack.

The fight with Ming General Liu Cheng’en is divided into two phases, with his moveset changing once his health drops to 50%.

MoveDescription
Triple Ground SlamLiu Cheng’en leaps into the air and slams his polearm down on your position. He repeats this three times in a row. Dodge in any direction just before each impact.
Uppercut & Triple StabPerforms a polearm uppercut followed by three quick stabs. Dodge backward to avoid the uppercut, then dodge to the sides to evade the stabs. This is a good opening to get behind him for a heavy attack.
Side SlashHe places his polearm over his shoulder before delivering a wide downward slash. Dodge in any direction, but be prepared for a potential follow-up attack.
Spinning Ground SlamLiu Cheng’en spins twice to build momentum, dealing damage if you’re too close, before finishing with a powerful ground slam. Maintain your distance during the spins, then dodge sideways to avoid the final slam.
Glaive DanceA fast combo of slashes and stabs with his polearm. Dodging backward repeatedly is the safest way to create distance and avoid the entire sequence.

When his health reaches approximately 50%, Liu Cheng’en will perform a Weapon Switch. He envelops himself in a snowstorm and swaps his polearm for a sword. Be ready to dodge, as he often attacks immediately after switching. This signals the start of the second phase and a more aggressive moveset.

MoveDescription
Sword SpinA single spin attack followed immediately by two rapid spins. This move is difficult to dodge effectively. It’s best to Clash or Deflect it. Alternatively, dodge the first spin and use a spell with Alacrity to reposition.
Double Side SlashExecutes two consecutive side slashes. Dodge to your right for both hits. If you time a dodge forward, you can get behind him and land a heavy attack, potentially opening him up for an Obliterate Strike.
Sword DanceA rapid combination of sword slashes. Due to the speed of the attack, it’s highly recommended to Clash or Deflect this combo rather than trying to dodge each hit.
BlizzardLiu Cheng’en summons a swirling blizzard centered on himself, dealing continuous damage in a wide radius, and concludes with a powerful sword slash. Stay well outside the blizzard’s edge to avoid damage.
Ground StompHe raises his foot and stomps the ground, creating a small area-of-effect shockwave. A simple dodge in any direction avoids this, but dodging forward can position you behind him for a counter-attack.
Icicle TossThrows two volleys of four frostbite-infused projectiles. Dodge to the right to avoid the first set, then immediately dodge right again to evade the second set.
