Key to Victory

  • Inflicting Burn is the key to this fight, as it will cause Lu Hongliu to flinch, interrupting its combos.
  • Stay mobile and create distance to bait its punishable attacks like the Blood Vomit.
  • The transition to Phase 2 at 50% HP provides a massive, 7-second opening to deal free damage.

The boss is located west of the Shu Sanctum. You’ll have to go through the residential area past the river. Before the boss arena, there is a tree that can be kicked down to create a shortcut and a bridge between Luo Courtyard and the Shu Sanctum.

This is a pure aggression check. Lu Hongliu’s main weakness is Burn. Use Fire spells like Infernal Flames, the Echo of Dhutanga, or the Bone Needle - Flame Temperance to set it ablaze. Each time the Burn status procs, the boss will flinch, giving you a small window to attack or heal. The biggest opening in the fight occurs when it transitions to Phase 2 at 50% health, where it remains immobilized for about 7 seconds.

In this phase, Lu Hongliu is extremely fast and uses a variety of charges, claw swipes, and blood vomit attacks.

  1. Swift Charge Lu Hongliu crosses its arms, then dashes toward you. Dodge forward just before it makes contact to avoid the attack. This is usually followed by a Lunge Attack.

  2. Lunge Attack The boss jumps and slashes twice in quick succession upon landing. Dodge forward diagonally to get behind it, as dodging straight forward might get you hit.

  3. Blood Vomit (Side to Side) It spews blood in a wide arc from its right to its left. This is a key opening to sprint in and attack, as it remains stationary.

  4. Blood Vomit (Upward) It spews blood upward, which then rains down. Dodge to the side, then create distance, as this is often followed by a Head Smash.

  5. Head Smash Lu Hongliu repeatedly smashes its head into the ground. Dodge backward for each slam.

  6. Quick Claw Combo A five-hit combo of fast downward claw strikes. Dodge backward for each attack, and be wary of a double-hit after the first strike.

  7. Grab Attack A dangerous multi-hit grab where the boss bites you repeatedly. Dodge sideways to avoid the entire sequence.

At 50% HP, Lu Hongliu performs a long “Violent Tantrum” attack. After this, it becomes even more aggressive and adds new moves to its arsenal.

  1. Violent Tantrum This is its transition move. The boss stands up and unleashes a long sequence of attacks, ending with a head burrow and unburrow. It is immobilized for about 7 seconds after this move, giving you a huge opportunity to inflict damage and the Burn status.

  2. Tracking Blood Vomit Lu Hongliu spews blood that slowly follows your location. Sprint sideways to outrun the stream.

  3. Leaping Ground Smash The boss leaps high into the air and slams down with great force. Dodge forward just before it hits the ground to get behind it and deal damage during its recovery.

Blood Vomit (Side to Side)

  • Description: The boss spews a wide arc of blood.
  • Strategy: This is a primary opening. As soon as you see it rear its head back, sprint towards it to get several free hits in while it’s locked in the animation.

Violent Tantrum (CRITICAL)

  • Description: The long, scripted attack sequence that signals the start of Phase 2.
  • Strategy: Do not approach during the initial part of this move. Wait for it to finish its head burrow attack. It will then be stunned for about 7 seconds. Use this time to apply Burn and deal as much damage as possible.

Leaping Ground Smash (Phase 2)

  • Description: In Phase 2, it leaps much higher into the air for a devastating slam.
  • Strategy: The hangtime is long. Wait until it begins to descend, then dodge forward to get behind it for a significant punish window.
