Proper preparation is crucial for this fight. Follow these steps to gain an advantage before facing the Master Raider.

  1. The Entwined Legend Pendant significantly increases your Burn resistance. This is vital for mitigating the damage from Dhutanga’s flame-coated spear attacks in the second phase of the fight.

You can find this pendant on the road beside Lightzen Temple, near a statue guarded by two enemies with staves.

  2. Before the boss fight, take some time to farm enemies and upgrade your stats.

    • Farm Enemies: To the right of the Lightzen Temple Shrine, you can find six enemies. First, defeat the four around the campfire by throwing a Fire Pot at the nearby explosive vases. Then, enter the wrecked house on the right, where two more enemies will drop from the ceiling.
    • Upgrade Stats: Use the Mercury Essence you’ve collected (by exchanging Red Mercury) at the Impetus Repository to unlock new stat nodes and weapon-specific passives.
    • Get the Cloudfrost Edge: Near the four enemies by the campfire, you can pick up the Cloudfrost Edge, a One-Handed Sword. Its unique skill, Evasive Maneuver, allows you to temporarily evade all enemy attacks when activated with Skyborn Might.
  3. Visit the Impetus Repository and navigate to the left side to find the Manna Vase upgrade tree. Upgrading your Manna Vase increases its number of charges and enhances its healing potency.

    • To increase charges, you will need Forgotten Remembrance.
    • To enhance health recovery, you will need Lost Remains.

Dhutanga has two phases, with his moveset expanding once his health drops to 50%.

MoveDetails
Leap AttackDhutanga builds momentum and leaps, slamming his spear onto the ground. Dodge forward as he lands to get behind him for a heavy attack. This move is often followed by another attack.
Forward ChargeHe plants his spear and charges forward. Damage is dealt when he lifts the spear at the end of the charge. Wait a moment before dodging as he reaches you.
Downward StrikeDhutanga raises his spear and brings it down in a powerful strike. Dodge to the sides to avoid it. This is a common follow-up attack.
Ground SmashHe spins his spear overhead and smashes it into the ground. Dodge to either side and try to get behind him for a heavy attack.
Ground StompDhutanga raises a leg and stomps the ground, creating an area-of-effect shockwave. Move away from him or dodge just as his foot hits the ground.
Spear BurrowHe plants his spear in the ground and then kicks it to unearth it. Both actions deal damage. After he plants the spear, dodge forward to get behind him and attack.
Spear ComboA three-hit combo consisting of an overhead slash, a sideways slash, and a final stab. The timing between attacks aligns well with your dodge timing, making it easy to evade.

At 50% HP, Dhutanga coats his spear with flames, adding Burn damage to his attacks. He also gains one powerful new move.

MoveDetails
FireworksDhutanga surrounds himself in a red cloud, breathes fire onto a ball, exhales a stream of fire at you, and finally throws the fiery ball into the air and hits it, causing a massive explosion. He is stationary during this entire sequence, leaving his back vulnerable.

You can find Man-Eating Dhutanga past the courtyard behind the Lightzen Temple Shrine.

From the Lightzen Temple Shrine, enter the main courtyard and make your way past the zombie-like enemies. Go to the rear of the large, rundown building and open the gate to enter the boss arena.
