Soulwood is a large, stationary main boss in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, located at the end of Doomwillow Beach. This fight is a battle of attrition, requiring you to survive its wide-reaching attacks and capitalize on key moments when it lowers its head.
Soulwood is located at the very end of the Doomwillow Beach area. You must navigate through the Corpse Pits, knocking down large Corpse Trees to create paths, to reach its arena.
The key to this fight is exploiting Soulwood’s extreme vulnerability to Burn. Your main goal should be to apply this status effect as often as possible. Soulwood is a large, stationary target, so its weak points—its hands and head—are often exposed. The biggest damage opportunities arise when it performs its Vacuum or Flame Blast attacks, as it lowers its head to the ground for an extended period. Dodge to its sides during these moves and unleash your strongest combos.
In its first phase, Soulwood uses a variety of large, sweeping, and projectile-based attacks.
Vacuum
Soulwood lowers its head and inhales, pulling you towards it in a large cone. Sprint away or to the sides to avoid getting sucked in. This is a major opening to attack its hands and head from the side.
Flame Blast
It gathers flames and lowers its head, then spews fire in a wide cone in front of it. Skeletons will also spawn from the ground. Immediately run to its sides to avoid the blast and attack.
Burrowing Branch
Soulwood buries one of its hands into the ground. After three tugs, it pulls the hand free, dealing damage in a large area. You can attack the arm while it’s stuck, then dodge away before it breaks free.
Blood Globules
It spits out three homing blood orbs. Perfect dodging these will grant Skyborn Might and spawn blue buds on the ground that also grant a charge when stepped on.
When its health drops to around 50%, Soulwood adds a fast, wide-sweeping attack to its arsenal.
Branch Swing
Soulwood swings one of its large branch arms from one side to the other, covering a huge area in front of it. You must dodge backward to avoid this attack.
Description: A massive, cone-shaped fire breath attack that also spawns skeletons.
Strategy: This is a primary damage window. As soon as it lowers its head to gather flames, sprint to its side. You are completely safe next to its arms and can deal significant damage to both the arm and the head.
Burrowing Branch
Description: The boss gets its arm stuck in the ground for a few seconds before ripping it out in an explosion.
Strategy: Run in and attack the stuck arm 2-3 times, then dodge away just before it pulls the arm free to avoid the AoE damage.
Blood Globules
Description: It spits three homing blood projectiles.
Strategy: Perfect dodge these projectiles. This not only keeps you safe but also generates Skyborn Might and spawns blue buds on the ground for even more charges.
