Refugee Camp Walkthrough

After descending the long ladder from the Battlefield Pass, you will arrive in the Refugee Camp, which serves as the main hub area for the Mt. Zhenwu region, similar to Shu Sanctum. This area is filled with merchants, quest NPCs, and a large optional dungeon to explore.

The camp is split into two main sections by a bridge. Before exploring, it’s wise to interact with the NPCs and activate the local shrine.

  1. Cross the Bridge & Find the Child in the Jar From the bottom of the ladder, cross the rope bridge ahead. On the other side, you’ll see a small child with a pot on his head. If you picked up the Bloodied Steamed Bunny Bun in the Battlefield Pass, give it to him.

You won’t receive a reward immediately. Rest at a shrine or travel to another area and return. You will find a Tattered Paper on the ground where the child was.

  2. Meet Magalhaes & Activate the Shrine Head up the slope next to the Child in the Jar. You will find a missionary from Portugal named Magalhaes near the camp’s main shrine.

  3. Visit Merchants and Other NPCs The familiar merchants Wu Gang and Tao Qing are in a tent near the shrine. You can turn in any key items you’ve found to expand their wares, including boss echoes to unlock new armor sets for purchase.

Note on Quest Progression Depending on which side quests you have completed so far, several other NPCs may appear around the camp, offering rewards and new dialogue. This includes Fang Yao, He Youzai, Matchstick, Shen Jing’an, and Nian Suichang.

From the camp, you can undertake a large, optional side quest in the Avian Marsh, which holds a powerful boss and valuable loot. This path begins near the entrance to the Refugee Camp.

  1. Enter the Marsh Go back towards the ladder you came down from Battlefield Pass. Before the bridge, find the White-Robed Elder standing near another ladder leading down into a ravine. Agree to help him in his hunt, and he will give you Soulgrass. Descend the ladder and enter the cave in the rock wall to reach Avian Marsh.

  2. Defeat the Giant Avian Upon exiting the cave, you’ll face a massive Giant Avian mini-boss. This enemy cannot be staggered. Stay close to its feet to avoid its wide swings and powerful magic attacks. Upon defeat, it drops a Radiant Red Feather and Blood of Wangdi.

  3. Find the Avian Marsh Shrine After the fight, follow the path behind where the avian spawned. Head up the slope until you reach a giant tree. Underneath it, you will find the Shrine ( Avian Marsh) and the Red-Clad Lady. Agree to help her, and she will reward you with the Spell: Divine Blessing.

  4. Navigate to the Boss Arena From the shrine, take the path opposite the one you entered from. Follow the winding tunnel down. On the way, look for a corpse holding the Spell: Plume Vortex. The main path will open into a massive cavern with a soaring tree and a pond—the boss arena.

  5. Boss Fight: Bo Sorcerer This is the boss the White-Robed Elder was hunting.

    • Strategy: If you have been following the Elder’s questline, you can use your Flute to summon him for assistance during this fight, making it significantly easier.
    • Drops: Upon defeat, the Bo Sorcerer drops the Echo of the Bo Sorcerer and a Copper Drum.
    • Final Reward: Speak to the White-Robed Elder again after the battle to receive the Tigraliz Pendant.

Avian Marsh is a sprawling, labyrinthine area. While exploring off the main path, completionists can find a variety of powerful items and armor. These are not required to proceed but can be valuable for specific builds.

Once you have finished your business in the Refugee Camp and Avian Marsh, you can proceed to the next major area.

  1. Find the Swampy Path From the main camp shrine, head down towards the middle tier of the camp. You’ll find a path leading towards a swampy area with a broken cart.

  2. Clear the Swamp

  3. Continue to the Next Zone At the end of the swamp path is a ladder leading down the cliff. This is the entrance to the next area: Zhenwu Temple.
